One source states that James Gibson was born on 16 Oct 1687 in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland. He moved to Clogher, Tyrone Co., Ireland, where some of his children were born, before immigrating to Virgi nia sometimes between 1723 and 1732. (date of immigration not verified)
James and Eleanor Gibson were living in the South River area of Virginia in the 1740's when it was Lunenburg County. Bedford County was not established until 1753, and not organized governmentally unt il the following year.
The will of James Gibson, Bedford County Will Book 1 page 20, was dated 14 April 1764, and was filed 26 February 1765 in Bedford Co., Virginia.

In the name of God Amen I James Gibson of Bedford County being of Sound
and Disposing mind and Memory do make and Ordain This my Last Will and
Testament in Manner and form following that is to say I will that all my Debts and Funeral Charges be paid and discharged by my son James Gibson.
Item I give and bequeath TO MY SON RANDOLPH GIBSON ONE NEGRO NAMED BUMBOW to him and his Heirs forever [Note: SEE 1767 TAX LIST OF PITTSYLVANIA CO, VA by Peter Perkins - RANDOLPH WITH HIS FATHER'S SLA VE BIMBO]
