MABEL IONA EVERITT ROBERTS CLEAR LAKE - Mabel Iona Everitt Roberts, 96, died Sunday (May 16, 1999) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the Christian Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Paul Enabnit officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services at the church with a Tina Rebekah service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements. The family of Mabel Iona Roberts has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Christian Church in Clear Lake or to the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City in her memory. Mabel was born on Feb. 13, 1903, in Nova, Ohio, the daughter of John Snyder and Martha A. (Decker) Everitt. She received her education in the Mason City school system. She was united in marriage to Roy W. H. Tesene on Dec. 20, 1919, and together they farmed north of the Mason City Airport. To this union was born one son, John Tesene. Roy W. H. Tesene preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1921. Mabel remained on the farm after her husband's death and was united in marriage to Owen Allen Roberts from Austin, Minn., on Dec. 30, 1922. After their marriage they spent the next 18 years farming and in the trucking business, living in Austin, Minn., Manly and Mason City. Four children were born to them: Betty, Beverly, Robert and David. At the time of her husband's accident and death on Jan. 16, 1942, he was trucking with Western Grocers. The family lived in Mason City where Mabel worked in a small neighborhood grocery store. They moved to Clear Lake in September of 1943 where Mabel worked for her brother, Bill Everitt who owned the Hawkeye Wire Company, as his office manager. She later was employed at National Tea Food store for six years and then was employed by the Clear Lake Independent Telephone Co. until her retirement in 1966. Mabel's first love was for her lodge, Tina Rebekah No. 105 of Clear Lake. She was initiated in 1943 and was Noble Grand in 1947. She was awarded her 50 year pin, the Decoration of Chivalry and other honors in the lodge. She was past president of Royal Neighbors and helped organize the Navy Mothers Club in 1943; she also held local, state and national offices, was honored with a life membership, and was active in the club until 1987. Mabel was a member of O.D.O. Club, Star Club and the Christian Church. Besides her two husbands, Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill; and two sisters, Florence McKee and Ida Shaw. Left to cherish her memory is son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Tesene; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Warren Jacobson; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tom Burnett; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Leatrice Roberts; and son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Roberts; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
