March 9th, 1762. Michael Gieg son of Adam of Brecknock Township married Rosina Retge daughter of Jacob. The marriage was performed by John Samuel Schwerdtferger/Schwerdfeger. Trinity Lutheran Church. Records of Pastoral Acts at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 1730-1799. Translated and edited by Glenn P. Schwalm and Frederick S. Wiser. Breinigsville PA: Pennsylvania German Society, 1977, vii, p 209. Although he owned land in Huntingdon Co. PA as early as 1779, Michael remained in Brecknock Twp. Lancaster Co. PA until the death of his father, Adam, in 1783. He is mentioned with frequency and received a special inheritance in his father's will. Michael lived in Huntingdon Co. from 1784 until ca 1814 when he and a number of his family moved to Richland Co. OH where he died. Some of Michael's earlier female children remained, for the most part, in Lancaster Co. He was a blacksmith and a farmer. The following obituary for this wife, Rosannah, in 1824 indicates 13 children. They have not yet been all identified.
