James Emerson Baxendale was born in Vesper, Kansas, on October 4, 1924, to the late Margaret (Mulloy) and Gilbert Emerson Baxendale. He died October 25, 2011, in Denver. He grew up in Salina, where he attended Sacred Heart Cathedral and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.
Jim worked for the Kansas State Highway Department where he attained his civil engineering license. He also owned and operated Russell Sand & Gravel Company for several years. He later served as county engineer in several western Kansas counties.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alveda (Susie) Doris Ivan; infant son, John Charles; second wife, Edna Marie Zeller; and infant daughter, Sheila Marie.
Survivors included his wife, Phyllis; sons, James, Michael and Mark Baxendale; daughters, Holly Rachwal and Carri Baxendale; stepchildren; brother, John (Bob) Baxendale; sister, Rita Graves; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
