Notes for this person
N: 528 He was a blacksmith, and had a house and shop on a lot situated at thecorner of Bridge and Market streets, on which the Episcopal Church inNorthhamptom, and the house next southwest of it, now stand. It was twelve rodsinfront on Market street. In 1726, he sold out in Northhamptom, and his name nextappears in the record of Hadley, South Precinct, (now South Hadley). Whe therhewent directly from Northhampton to South Hadley, is not known. Thegrandchildren of his youngest son, Phineas, think they heard their grandfather say, hewas born in Deerfield, Mass. The birth of Phineas was probably about 1726or1727, and it is possible the Father may have lived a short time in Deerfield. But he could not have remained there long. Another Daniel Nash, son of his brother John Nash of Hadley, usuallycalled Ensign Daniel Nash, settle d in the South Precinct about 1730, and forafew years there were two of the name there, both blacksmiths, anddesignatedas senior and junior. The name o f the elder disappears from the records of South Hadleyabout1738, and is nex t mentioned in Upper Housatonick (now Great Barrington,Mass.)in 1739, where he appears to have passed the remainder of his life. Heisfirst noticed in the (C) Church records of Great Barrington on his admission26April 1746, as Deacon Daniel Nash. But he was never a Deacon of thatChurchand probably br ought the title from some other place. All that is known of him subsequently, is from the followinginscriptionon an old gray stone, in the old grave-yard at Great Barrington -- "He liesthebody of Daniel Nash, who died Mar 10 A.D . 1760, aged 84. OEternity!Eternity! " It is not known when or where his w ife died. From "The Nash Family . .." by the Rev. Sylvester Nash, 1853. A Blacksmith Settled In Great Barrington, Mass. Also Lived In Northampton
