Notes for this person
Each year a salute is fired over his grave on 30 Dec. Elijah assisted in raising Sheldon's Light Horse Dragoons and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He gave generous financial support to the government, on two occasions and it was eight years after his death before any of the money was repaid by the government. Elijah was one of the founders of the Connecticut Land Company. He was sheriff of Trumbull , OH from 1803 to 1807 and collector of taxes. Served as a General in the war of 1812. The town of Wadsworth, OH was named for him, although he never lived there.
