Peter Folrath, father of Davis B. and Harry Folrath of this city, died at 5:40 o'clock Sunday evening at the Decatur hospital. Mr. Folrath, whose home was in Monticello suffered a broken hip in a bad fall on Jan. 6. He was brought to the Decatur hospital last Tuesday and failed steadily until his death. Mr. Folrath lived at Cerro Gordo many years ago and waswidely known and respected.
Mr. Folrath was born in Reichelshe? Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany Aug. 18, 1830. He came to America in 1849, making the voyage across the Atlantic in a wooden sailing ship. After his arrival in this country he went to Pittsburgh, Pa. where he worked at his trade of shoemaker. Later he lived In Springfield, Ohio, and Milton, Ohio.
He was married in Milton to Miss Margaret Davis. Soon after their marriag the couple removed to Madison, Iowa, where D. B. Folrath and Henry Folrath were born. After living in Madison eight years, they removed to Decatur,but a year later in 1865 went to Cerro Gordo to make their home. Mr. Folrath followed his trade in Cerro Gordo until 14 years ago when he and his wife went to Monticello to make their home with theirson H. G. Folrath. His wife died March 1, 1910.
Mr. Folrath was confirmed In the German Lutheran church in Reichelsh?. Germany, when he was fourteen years old. He was a member of Cerro Gordo lodge No. 600. A. F. &. A. M.
He leaves in addition to Harry and D. B. Folrath, four other sons and one daughter. H. G. Folrath, Monticello; W. W. Folrath and B. N. Folrath, Chicago: Harley O.Folrath, of Cerro Gordo, and Mrs. K. C. Webster, Monticello.
The funeral will be held in the Methodist church in Cerro Gordo Wednesday morning. The service will be conducted byRev. Mr. Phillips and interment will be in the Cerro Gordo cemetery. A special interurban car will leave the transfer house in Decatur Wednesday morning to accommodate friends who wish to accompany the funeral party to Cerro Gordo.
