Telitihia's son told me about Jesse. It seems that Jesse was a wellknown boot-legger in the Charoltte, NC area in the 1930's. One night someguys came calling for some boot leg and Jesse wouldn't sell them any.they left only to return shortly and Jesse meet them on the porch with apistol in the back of his pants. One of the guys swung a bat at Jesse andhe pulled the gun his wife Lillie Collins some how got in the fight. Onething led to another and Jesse shot one of the men dead. There was atrial and Jesse got 20 years. According to the family, the jury found himnot gulity for reason of defence but it gave them the chance to put himaway for boot-legging. Jesse had only been in prison a short time whenTelitihia died and they wouldn't let him come to the funeral but Jesseescaped and ran out to Red Wood City, CA where his sister was, only to becaught and sent back. My grandma Mildred remembers going to visit themand Jesse had a pot belly stove in which he would pour his boot-leg intofor holding. He had some devise under his house that the pipe wasattached to in the stove. Jesse died in the Charlotte area in the 1950's,shortly after getting out of prison. His wife Lillie let him stay withthem until he died but no relationship there.--Tina Fonseca
