John Lake married Margaret Reade, daughter of Edmund Reade of WickfordCounty Essex, Esq., born in 1563, died in 1623. Their daughter, HannahLake, came to this country with her mother in the ship Abigail October 6,1635, and married John Gallup in 1652. From the Essex Co. History and General Register, Vol. 1-2 P. 102, istaken the following: Mrs. Margaret Lake was the widow of John Lake and died in Ipswich, 1672.Her sister, Martha, married 1st, David Eppes; and 2nd, the HonorableSamuel Symonds. Her sister, Elizabeth, was the wife of John Winthrop Jr.These ladies were the daughters of Edmund and Elizabeth Reade. Theirmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Reade married for her second husband the ReverandHugh Peters. "The will of Margaret Lake of Ipswich, Widow. "In the name of God amen. I Margaret Lake of Ipswich in America in theshire of Essex, being of weak body yet of good and perfect memory andunderstanding praysed be God, doe dispose of that little estate God hathlent me as follows. "In primas I give and bequeath unto my Daughter, Hannah Gallop and herchildren all my land at New london, also my best gowne and my red clothpetty coate and my enameled ring, and after her decease my will is thatmy grand daughter Hannah Gallop shall have the said ring. also I Giveunto my grand daughter Hannah Gallop, a pare of sheets, and one of mybest pewter platters and one of the next. "Item I give unto my daughter Martha Harris, my Tapistry coverlit and allmy other apparell which are not disposed of to others particulary, and Igive unto her my mantle, and after her decease to al her children astheir need is. also the coverlitt of Tapistry after my daughter Martha'sdecease I give it to my grand son Thomas Harris, and he dyeing withoutissue to his brother John and so to the rest of the children. "Also I give to my daughter Martha, my gold ring and my will is thatafter her decease my grand daughter Martha Harris shall have it. "Item I give unto my grand daughter Martha Harris my bed and bedstead andone boulster, tow pillows and one coverlett. "Item I give to my grand daughter Elizabeth Harris, one heifer at cousinEppeses. "Item I give to my grand daughter Margaret Harris, my carved box, and onedamaske table cloth, and six damaske napkins. "Item my will is that all my bras and pewter with the rest of my household stuff undisposed of, be equally divided amongst my daughter Harriseschildren. "Item I give and bequeathe unto my son Thomas Harris all the rest of myestate viz: my part of the vessel and all my debts &c only my Bibleexcepted, which I give to my grandson John Harris, and a pare of fringedgloves. "I apoynt my son Thomas harris and my daughter Martha Harris Executor andexecutrix of this my last will and testament this thirtieth day of Augustin the year of grace sixteen hundred and seventy tyo "Margaret Lake "These being witnesses Thomas Knowlton sen r , James Chute. "Att the court held at Ipswich the 24 September 1672 Thomas Knowltontestified upon oath that this is the last will and testament of Mrs.Margaret Lake to the best of his knowledge.
