Simeon Stephens/Stevens was probably born at Plainfield, Connecticut,though no record of his birth has been found. The Stonington records givethe marriage of Simeon Stephens and Mercy Cotts/Coates, both ofStonington, November 3, 1737, by Theophilus Baldwin, Justice. December 15, 1738, Henry Stephens of Stonington conveys (consideration,love, and goodwill), to his son Simeon Stephens, land lying in saidStonington by estimate thiry acres, "which is ye northernmost part of yefarm I now live upon." The deed is recorded in the Stonington,Connecticut Records, on page 92, Land Book V, and is in abstract asfollows: Deed from Henry Stephens of Stonington, (consideration, Love, andGoodwill) to his son Simeon Stephens of land lying in sd Stonington byestimate 30 Acres, wh is ye northern mostg part of ye farm that I nowlive upon &c beginning at a small white ash tree standing by Samll Uttle,his land thence running northerly 58 Rods to a small white oak treemarked 4 S wh is Capt Hewits S E corner of land he bought of sd HenryStephens thence near west by a fence 86 rods to ye Sd Hewits stone wall thence running southing to ye east of ye south points 58 rods to a longlarge Rock thence running near East to ye first mentioned ash tree *c whland is valued at -L-300. Dated Dec. 15, 1738 Henry Stephens Seal Witness Theophilus Baldwin John Baldwin Previous to the death of Henry Stephens in 1726 his son appears on therecords as Henry Stephens, Junior, but afterward he ceased to use theJunior and wrote his name Henry Stephens. The above deed was signed byHenry Stephesn of the Second Generation, and was to his son, Simeon, whois thus of the Third Generation.
