[maryelizhall.FTW] BIRTH: Adopted at birth by maternal grandparents, Eva Davis and WalterGray. She changed her name to Joan Clark Curtis during her second marriage. Joanie and Jeanie were identical twins. As babies, our parents wouldhave to put black X's o n the bottom of one of our feet to tell usapart. Joanie was born February 14th, the oldes t by ten minutes of aset of identical twins. At the age of 18, she was married to Burton. They had two daughters, StacyJo and Jennie. Joanie was divorced in the late1970s and raised he r girls alone. In the early 1980s, Joanie served as aPolice Reserve. In 1982, she was the fi rst woman in Minnesota to bepromoted to the rank of Master Sergeant within the Police Reserv e Unit.Joanie married again to Richard. Both her daughters are now married.StacyJo has tw o children, Marcus and Sara. Joanie adored them both. Joanie was a great fan of science fiction. She had an extensivecollection of books and movie s. When not reading, Joanie wrote poetry.One of her poems, "Changes", was published by the N ational Library ofPoetry. On April 27, 2000, Joanie went to the Emergency Room with severeabdominal pains. on April 29 th, she was diagnosed with Renal Carcinomaand given approximately 6 months to live. Two day s later, on May 1st, wewere told that the cancer was more advanced than originally thought a ndthat she only had two weeks left. Six days later, on May 7, 2000, eightdays after the fir st diagnosis of cancer, Joanie died of RenalCarcinoma. We all miss her very much. She will b e remembered forever.
