Hertog van Normandië (6 aug 1028-1035). Robert was also known as 'The Magnificent' and 'The Devil'. His affairwith Arlette produced King William I 'the Conqueror'. According to some sources, Robert was born supposedly in 999. Robert contributed to the restoration of Henry King of France to his throne, and received from the gratitude of that monarch, the Vexin, as an additional to his patrimonial domains. In the 8th year of his reign, curioisity or devotion induced him to undertake a pilgirmage to Jerusalem in the Holy Land,where the fatigues of the journes and the heat of the climate so impaired his constitution he died on his way home.
