Keith (indexed Kreth) 01001 00000 Balthasar, Baltzer, came to America in September of 1753 aboard the ship Neptune a year before the rest of the family arrived. He is listed in the 1753 and 1754 Philadelphia early census. He resided first in Brecknock Twp and then neighboring Caernarvon Twp in the eastern part of Lancaster County. In 1774 he moved to Chanceford Twp of York County. For two years, 1779 and 1780, he resided in Manheim Twp of York Co, likely working as a blacksmith at the Mary Ann Furnace. He returned to Chanceford Twp in 1781. He likely moved to Morgan Co. VA (now West Virginia) about 1785 and then according to tax roles moved to Huntingdon Co PA in 1796 with his son Jacob and was joined shortly thereafter by his son Peter. Balzer's family was listed as a total of 5 in 1783. There is a reference in a biography that Balzer was a blacksmith, a known fact, and that he shod horses for the military during the Revolutionary War. He certainly would have shod horses for a number of people and likely some, but not all, could have been soldiers. Trinity Lutheran Church.
