Thomas W. Reese Sr. 97, Loretto, passed away peacefully December 18, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born September 21, 1920 in Colver, son of the late George and Marie (Kelly) Reese.
Preceded in death by son, Thomas Jr., 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by wife of 74 years, the former Leona Reiland whom he married October 23, 1943 in Ebensburg. Children: Rae Ann (Paul) Effinger of Loretto, David (Barb Link) of Ebensburg, Robert (Shirley Gaida) of Altoona, and Jo Ann (John) Sally of Ebensburg. 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was the last member of his immediate family. He was and Army Veteran of WWll where he served in the infantry and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He worked as a maintenance foreman at the Ebensburg Center, and retired after 30 years of service. Tom was known for his story telling, his love and talent for making music, but his true passion was drawing which he shared with his family and friends. Member of Loretto American Legion.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday and from 11:30 until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, Pa 16613, Rev. Matthew Reese, grandson of the deceased, officiating. Committal will be at St. Michael Cemetery, Loretto. Military Rites in charge of Loretto American Legion and other local Military Organizations. In lie of flowers donations can be made to the family.
