Richard A. StaibAge 93 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 10, 2008.
He was born on August 31, 1915 in Bethel, CT, graduating from Bethel High School in 1932. After serving in the Connecticut National Guard, he entered active duty in the U.S. Army in 1942 as a member of the 327th Field Artillery battalion of the 84th Infantry Division. He served the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns, returning home with the rank of captain in 1946. After marrying Yolanda Spanka in 1946, he attended Columbia University and received a degree in accounting. Richard was an accountant with Charles S. Krantz & Co. in New York, retiring in 1983. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and attending army reunions with his wife, bowling and fishing with his son, and spending time in the company of his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yolanda, in 2005. Richard is survived by his son, Ronald R. Staib and his wife, Michele Karpovich, of Hockessin, DE and his granddaughters, Jennifer and Rachel Staib.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 15 at 10 am at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., where friends may call after 9:15. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the , 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or to St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown, Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.
