Joseph E. Evans Jr., of Scranton, formerly of New Jersey, died Saturday in Moses Taylor Hospital.
Born in Paterson, N.J., son of the late Joseph E. Evans Sr. and Elizabeth S. Wood, he was a member of the Jacksonville Chapel in New Jersey and was educated in Saddle Brook schools.
He was self-employed in numerous business ventures where he used his entrepreneurial skills to see the business become successful. He specialized in printing.
Joseph helped many homeless people while living in New Jersey by providing them with the essentials to survive and was also a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey.
His passion was watching NASCAR with family and friends. He was best known for his keen sense of humor by making everyone laugh.
Joseph was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was the greatest father in the world and will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are two daughters, Dawn Evans, Scranton; and Ann Evans, Corsican, Texas; three sons, Joseph Evans, Scranton; David Evans, Heat Spring, Texas; and John Evans, Scranton; two sisters, Linda Evans, Clifton, N.J.; and Aubrey E. Evans, Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Joseph Evans V, Destiny Weller and Tyler Evans, as well as a grandchild on the way, Austin Lee Evans.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St.
