8 children 6 living 1900 censusWilhelmina (Tiews) BUTENHOFF TIEWS, BUTENHOFF, POSSEHL, IVERSON, KORTH, BUGE, STOCK Posted By: Sarah Thorson Little (email) Date: 3/9/2007 at 23:21:01 Barnesville Record-Review, Minnesota August 18, 1927 Mrs. August Butenhoff, well known resident of Baker, Minnesota passed away at her home in that village Thursday, August 11, 1927, at 12:30 p.m. following a lingeringillness. Mrs. Butenhoff, whose maiden name was Wilhelmina Tiews was born in Sletten, Germany, March 27, 1856. At the age of seven she came to America with her parents, settling in Milwaukee, Wis., where they resided 14 years, after which they moved on a farm near Dows, Iowa, where she was married to August L. Butenhoff June 11, 1878. The young couple settled on what was known as the old Butenhoffhomestead in Franklin County, Iowa, where they resided 35 years. In the spring of 1911 they bade farewell to old-time friends and acquaintances, and came to Baker, Minn., where they have since liveda quiet retired life. Mrs. Butenhoff was a diligent person who held the love and respect of all who knew her. She lived a most honorable Christian life, always ready to sacrifice for the welfare and happiness of others. During the last months of her life she bore the burden of her illness, in which she suffered intensely, with much patience and good cheer. Having submitted herself in faith to theliving Savior, she willing surrendered her earthly life to be with Him in whom she trusted and had unbounded faith. Funeral services which were largely attended were held from the home and later fromTrinity Lutheran Church at Sabin, Sunday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful church cemetery. Her four sons, Ferdinand, William, Henry and Otto and two grandsons, Rudolph and Arthur Possehl, acted as pallbearers. Obsequies were conducted by Rev. Paul Schum, who chose as his text the beautiful words "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain". The pastor also rendered two solos which were favorites of the deceased. Floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. Butenhoff leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, four sons, William, Ferdinand, Henry and Otto and three daughters, Mrs. H. C. Possehl, Mrs. O. N. Iverson and Mrs. T E. Iverson, 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Two sons and one daughter precededthe mother in death. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Korth Mr. and Mrs. Otto Korth, Theo Korth, and E. H. Buge of Dows, Iowa; Albert Buge and daughters, Lillian and Ethel of Coulter, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Stock of Albany, Minn. May the memory of the honorable life the deceased lived, be a comfort to the bereaved family.
