 HerminaSchaefer came to America from Hesse-Darmstadt Germany departing March 26, 1852. She arrived in New Orleans May 30th traveled inland to St. Louis, Mo. arriving June 10th 1852. She was confirmed in theSt. Paul's German Evangelical Church of St. Louis, Mo. April 27, 1856. Her parents were Christina (Vollmer) Zoelzer and William Zoelzer. Mother died February 13, 1868. Father died in Feb. 1896 at age79. She married Johann Heinrich Schaefer (Henry) Oct 20, 1868 in Fosterburg, Illinois. Henry was a Union soldier in the civil war serving in Company C, 64th Illinois an all German regiment that was marching through Southern Illinois from Chicago . They had five children George, William, Katherine, Minnie and Anna. Hermina and Henry moved to Hamel Township where Henry engaged in farming. They bothjoined the German Evangelical Church there. Henry died there January 7, 1880 shortly after their arrival. Hermina raised her five children alone working hard to provide for them. She was a faithful wife, a fond and loving mother, good neighbor and a friend to all. She was a devoted christian and a regular attendant at the Sunday Morning Church Service at the Presbyterian Church in Moro when the weather or other reasons kept her from attending St. John's Evangelical Church on the old Springfield Road.

Interment at St. John's Evangelical Cementary, 2 1/2 miles eas of Moro. Friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend. / Moro, Ill., September 30, 1913

In Best of Health This Morning. Passed Away Shortly After Dinner
Mrs Hermina Schafer, aged 70, a well known resident of Moro, passed away at the home of her son George shortly after noon today. The old lady was in the best of health this morning and ate her dinner in the best spirits. Shortly after dinner she was taken ill with a spell and never regained consciousness. Rheumatism is said to be the cause of her sudden death.

PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY AT HOME IN MORO
mrs Hermina Schafer died at her home in Moro yesterday afternoon 2 o'clock after an illness of about 5 weeks. She sufferedwith muscular rhematism but her death was caused by heard failure. she had apparently improved from the rheumatism, but had a heart attack, which caused her deeath rather suddenly.
At the time of her death Mrs. Schafer was aged 70 years and 15 days. she was an active member of St. John's Evangelical church on the Springfield road. When death came all the immediate members of the family werepresent.
She is survived ba four children: William Schafer of Georetown; Mrs E.A. Smith of Alton; George Schafer and Mrs Edward Helmskamp of Moro. Her Husband Henry Schaefer died 33 years ago. Hewas an old veteran and served th Union army for four years. He was a member of Company C, 64th Illinois. ....
