Details: Roy Leon Sportsman was born on April 28, 1929 in Calhan, Colorado to Forrest Neal Sportsman and Joyce Mildred (Legge) Sportsman. He was a 1947 graduate of Colorado Springs High School. He married Loretta C. Doerflinger on August 13, 1954. Roy was a sports enthusiast who liked racing, baseball and football. He was partial owner of Raceway Park that was east of Colorado Springs. He drove stock cars and participated in all aspects of racing, inclusive of The Pikes Peak Hill Climb. He worked for and retired from Continental Oil CO as a truck driver. After retirement, he had 10th street Conoco, sold cars and Coleman Trailers for several years. Roy served in the United States Army from January 1950 to October 1952 and was promoted to Sergeant First Class. He was awarded a commendation ribbon for meritorious service against an armed enemy in Korea. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; his 3 children: Linda West (Ryan), Lori Lazar, William Sportsman; and a granddaughter, Janae Lazar; his cousins, Doris and Maxine of Colorado Springs; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by both parents and his younger sister. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Roy will be cremated and his ashes spread over his beloved Colorado. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society , 1-800-227-2345, or The East United Methodist Church.
