1 Details: Twilight Wedding Unites Betty Becker, E.W. Swartz The marriage of Miss Betty Lorraine Becker and Earl William Swartz took place Saturday (14.2.1953) at the Immanuel Methodist church. The Rev. Gilbert Spaude, Ph. D., officiated at the 5 o'clock twilight service. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Becker, Somers, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur F. Swartz, 7815 17th Ave. For her wedding Miss Becker chose a white slipper satin gown styled with a fitted bodice accented by an illusion yoke, tiny collar and long, pointed sleeves. The fully-folded skirt ended in a cathedral train. A half-hat of satin, touched with rosebuds, held a fingertip illusion veil. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and hyacinths encircling a purple orchid and was given in marriage by her father. Mrs. Herbert Weinbrenner of Racine was matron of honor for the ceremony, and Miss Vera Ballgoin, also of Racine, was bridesmaid. Both wore identical gowns of Burgundy taffeta styled with portrait necklines, pointed waistlines and bouffant skirts. Half-hats of white feathered carnations and bouquets of white carnations and roses completed their ensembles. The bridegroom’s best man was his brother, Arthur J. Swartz of Somers. Robert Devine and Karl Becker of Somers, brother of the bride, ushered. After an evening reception, the couple left for a wedding trip through the southern states. Mrs. Leon Northway and Mrs. Arthur J. Swartz of Somers, the bridegroom’s sister-in-law, poured. The couple will make their home at 6330 Sheridan Rd. The bride is a graduate of the Kenosha School for Practical Nurses and was employed at the Kenosha hospital. The bridegroom attended the Wisconsin and Marquette universities and is an employee of the Sears, Roebuck company. Prenuptial showers feting Miss Becker were given by Mrs. Emil Strunk of Lake Forest, 111., Miscellaneous; Mrs. Herbert Weinbrenner, Racine, and Mrs. Bernard Weinbrenner,. coin; Mrs. Charles Utteck and Mrs. Ernest Becker, Somers, miscellaneous; Miss Doris James and Mrs. Frank Addman, kitchen. The young couple were also feted at a party given at the home pf Mrs. Leon Northway. Clipped from Kenosha Evening News Tuesday, February 17, 1953 Earl Swartz Earl Swartz, 88, a resident of Kenosha, died Thursday, June 05, 2008, at Washington Manor Healthcare Center with his wife of 55 years at his side. Earl was born in Kenosha, the son of Arthur and Millie (Bittorf) Swartz He attended schools in Kenosha, geaduating from Mary D. Bradford High School. After High School, he attended some classes at University of Wisconsin - Parkside. He married Betty Becker in 1953 at Immanuel Methodist Church in Kenosha. Over the years he worked as a salesman at Sears in Kenosha and later at JC Penny's in Racine. When he retired from JC Penny's, he worked as a part time salesman at local businesses. Earl loved to be outside, especially in his yard. He and Betty enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in their yard. He enjoyed walking around the neighborhood visiting with neighbors. He was a life long member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Betty; two sons, Thomas (Susanne) Swartz of Stauffenberg Germany, and Todd Swartz of Kenosha; a daughter, Lin (Norm) Swartz-Truesdell; grandchildren, Alicia and Justin Cook; brother, Arthur (Doris) Swartz; brother-in-law, Kenneth Becker, and nieces, nephews and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Millie; a sister, Ester Northway; and two brothers-in-law, Leon Northway and Carl Becker. A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Chapel (919 60th St. Please use 10th Avenue entrance). Visitation will be in the Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Greenridge Cemetery at a later date.
