Otto Emmanuel Grams

Birth: Feb. 2, 1916
Death: Dec. 31, 1999

Wenatchee World - Jan 4, 2000

Otto Emmanuel Grams of Cashmere, died Dec. 31, 1999 at the age of 83 years, at Colonial Vista Convalescent Center, surrounded by his family.

Otto wasborn Feb. 2, 1916 in Ritzville to parents, Emmanual and Barbara (Schultz) Grams and grew up on the family farm. He married his first wife, Ilene Kieson on Dec. 27, 1937. They moved to the Wenatchee valley to work on construction. While in Wenatchee, their first two children were born, Gary and Judy. Moving to 25 Mile Creek, Otto started his career in orcharding.

In the summer of 1946,Otto purchased his own orchard at Cashmere and that is where the last three children were born, Galyn, Darlyd and Rollin. Ilene passed away Nov. 25, 1961.

On July 26, 1963, Otto married Emma Grentz of Monitor. They continued to farm the orchard, in which Otto took great pride, until his retirement in 1972 when he joined the snowbirds, traveling south in the winter.

Otto was adevout Christian and a member of the Dryden Community Church for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for a lot of those years, sharing his faith with many.

Otto was an avid hunter and fisherman and truly loved the outdoors. Most of all, he enjoyed going on jeep rides and camping with his family. He always looked forward to family reunions, when, once again hisfamily would come together. In his later years, he played golf and "perfected" his game when he hit his "hole-in-one." He always looked for that sports game to watch, especially when his kids and grandkids would play--all the kids knew he was there, their greatest fan.

Otto and Emma moved to Colonial Vista Apartments in the summer of 1997. Otto spent his last year in the Colonial VistaConvalescent Center.

He is survived by his wife Emma of Wenatchee; daughter, Judy and her husband Mike Cenotto of Federal Way; step-daughter, Loretta and her husband Larry Ward of Monitor;sons, Gary and his wife Judy Grams of Cashmere; Galyn and his wife Vilene of Sumner, Darlyd and his wife Candice Grams of Sumner, Rollin and his wife Judy Grams of Seattle; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ron and his wife Claudia Grams of Ritzville, Wilmar of Milton Freewater, OR; sisters, Erna and her husband Paul Zimmerman of Spokane, Helen Connelly and Marion Grams of Ritzville.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother.
