Anna Mathilde (Tillie) was born to Diedrich and Anna Wessel on April 13, 1878, and died Feb 22, 1960. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's church in the community north of Hooper, Dodge Co., Nebraska.

She married Gerhard Koester on Feb 12, 1902, in Hooper, Dodge, NE. Children were: Paul Gerhard Koester, Sophie Louise Koester, Oscar John Koester, Herbert Diedrich Koester, George Arthur Koester, Martha Katherine Koester, Patience Mathilda ("Marjorie" "Pete" Koester, Helen Elizabeth Koester.

Her daughter Pete would later write, "...My mother was in the Sioux City hospital at the time with glaucoma and hypertension.  Her blood pressure was terrifically high and no medication at that time would keep it down.  On February 23, 1947, she passed away quietly, ready to go as she was nearly blind and told others that she didn't want to be a burden on her family.  Such a lovely, gentle mother -- how we missed her!"

Marriage record of Mr. Gerhard F. Koester and Miss Anna M. Wessel

The affidavit is dated February 7, 1902. He was age 26, she was age 24. Fathers are J.H. Koester and D. Wessel. Mothers are listed by maiden name as Sophia Michael and Metta Haar. It is signed by G.F. Koester and A.H. Briggs, County Judge. License to marry was granted that date.

Certificate of marriage certifies that marriage occurred on the 12^th day of February, 1902, atHooper and joined in marriage Mr. Gerhard F. Koester and Miss Mathilde A. Wessel. Witnesses present were Herm Koester and Louise Wessel. The certificate is dated February 13, 1902 by Rev. H. Wupper.

Rites Wednesday for Mrs. George Koester

Apr 12, 1878 - Feb 23, 1947

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon,Feb. 26, for Mrs, George Koester, at the Koester home at 2 p. m. and at the Salem Lutheran church at 2:30, with Rev. C. W. Wiberg officiating.

Mrs. Koester had been ill for several months and passedaway as a result of high blood pressure on Sunday, Feb. 23, 1947, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Mrs. R. Anderson, Mrs. W. Byers, Mrs. E. Van Cleave and Miss Elsie Collins sang "JesusStill Leads On" and "Asleep in Jesus," and Wm. Byers of Wayne sang "God Will Take Care of You."

Pallbearers were Clay Wheeler, Elmer Wharton, Millard Martin of Allen, Herman Muller T. M. Gustafson andDr. W. L. Byers. Interment was in the Wakefield cemetery under the direction of the T. C. Hypse Funeral Service.

Mathilda Koester, nee Wessel, was born in Dodge County, north of Hooper, Nebr., on April 12, 1878. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the St. Paul's church north of Hooper, where she spent her childhood.

On Feb. 12, 1902, she was united in marriage to George Koester, and to this union were born eight children: Paul, near Allen; Mrs. Percy Lockwood, Allen; Oscar, Allen; Herbert, Allen; George, Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. Alva Olson, Hartington; Mrs. Wallace Isom, Dixon, and Mrs. Wendell Schroeder, Dixon.

She was a charter member of the First Lutheran church at Allen, and always a devout Christian and faithful church member. She was a member of the Missionary Society and was made a life member of this organization. She taught Sunday school as time permitted her.

In March, 1943, she moved to Wakefield, where Mr. and Mrs. Koester united with the Salem Lutheran church in 1944.

She is survived by her husband, eight children, 23 grandchildren and five sisters: Katherine Windhusen, Medical Lake, Wash.; Sophie Vollers, Pender; Mina Kunz, Hooper; Gesine Suhr, Piano; 111., and Louise Marx, Scribner, Neb. One brother preceded Mrs. Koesterin death.
