Notizen zu dieser Person

Doris Ione Schnackenberg Bohman passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, of heart failure, at her residence. She was born on August 20, 1919 to Albert and Cecelia Strom in Troy, Idaho, one ofseven children. After graduating from Troy High School, she moved to Spokane, Washington, where she lived and worked, and where she eventually met Walter Charles Schackenberg, Jr. They were married on her birthday at Central Lutheran Church in Spokane in 1941. When Walter joined the Navy in World War II, she and their two young daughters lived in Spokane with his parents. After he attended graduate school at Gonzaga University and WSU, and taught two years at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, they moved to Parkland, Washington, where he became a Professor of History at Pacific Lutheran University. Together they raised four daughters, and Doris loved her role as wifeand mother. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland, and life revolved around church, university, and family. In the 1960's she became a founding member of a reading group thathas met monthly ever since. She attended her last meeting on the Tuesday before her death. Upon Walter's death in 1973, she moved from her job at Mortvedt Library at PLU to the Financial Aid Office where she worked until her retirement in 1985. In 1986 she married Morris Peter Bohman of Lewiston, Idaho, a friend from childhood. He moved to Lakewood where they lived until his death in 2000. They joined Christ Lutheran Church, where Doris participated in a quilting group whose quilts are donated around the world by Lutheran World Relief. Priest Lake, ldaho, held a special place in her life. From 1941 to 2011 she celebrated almost all of her birthdays at the lake with her family, and since 1968 at the log cabin Walter built. Doris loved her family and treasured her friends. She is survived by her daughters Ann Grady, Mary Cattani (Eduardo), Dikka Berven (Keith) and Gjertrud Schnackenberg; sister-in-law Elizabeth Strom, brother-in-law, William House; many nieces and nephews; and stepchildren Janice Keller (Eric), Julia Bohman, and Bruce Bohman (Jane), and their five children. Donations in her name may be made to the Walter C. Schnackenberg Memorial Lecture Fund at Pacific Lutheran University, or to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
