COLUMBUS - Mabel Helgerson Kvale, age 95, of Columbus, died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Columbus Community Hospital. She was born Aug. 25, 1912, in the Town of Hampden, Columbia County, to Herman and Wilhelmina (Schultz) Stange.
She was a lifelong area resident. She was a nurse's aid which she dearly loved; working at Beaver Dam and Columbia Hospitals, retiring in 1982. She married Clarence Helgerson and he preceded her in death in 1967. She married Ted Kvale in 1988 and he preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a very faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, serving her church in many ways through the years. A very special time in her life was in 1924 when she was 12, she won the Columbia County Spelling Bee, and was so happy to wina trip to the Wisconsin State Fair and be able to take her mother!
Mabel is survived by her two sons; a daughter; two stepdaughters; two stepsons; a daughter-in-law; and several beloved grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clarence Helgerson and Ted Kvale; a son, Vernon Helgerson, July 11, 2008; a sister, Addie Vick; a step daughter-in-law Ruby Kvale; and a step son-in-law, William Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 120 Faith Drive, Columbus, with the Rev. Robert Moberg officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow the services at Spring Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in Keyeser.
