Eugene “Gene” Niemann, the son of Minnie (Stevener) and William C. Niemann Sr. was born on September 12, 1926 in Prairie City, Missouri. He passed away at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri on September 13, 2002 at the age of 76 years.
Gene worked as a maintenance supervisor from 1950 to 1959 for the North Kansas City Development Company. In December of 1959 he moved to Appleton City where he started Niemann Heating and Plumbing. In addition to meeting the electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling needs of people in the Appleton City area, Gene was very active within the community. He served on the City Council, was school board president, served on the fire department for 30 years where he was Fire Chief for 15 years, was a life member of Montrose VFW Post 8820 and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City.
Eugene was united in marriage to Berniece Park on August 27, 1947 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Appleton City. To this union two children were born.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Janet Berniece who died as an infant, a brother and sister Vernon and Wilma Louise Niemann. He is survived by his wife Berniece of the home, his son Kelly and wife Susie of Appleton City, a brother Bill Niemann of Appleton City, a sister Norma Moldovan of Warrensburg, Missouri and his two grandsons who were his pride and joy Erin and Jake Niemann of Appleton City.
Gene was well known in the community in his early life for his athletic ability in baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed bowling, gardening and fishing, but found his greatest happiness being with his family and helping them.
