Emma MAURINE WEBER

Notizen zu dieser Person

Emma Maurine Weber Sachtleben, of Nacogdoches was born on January 12, 1924. She passed on to her Heavenly reward on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the age of 91 years, two months and 13 days. Burial at Old North Church cemetery. Emma Maurine’s early life was typical of depression era East Texas. Born in a shotgun sawmill shack in the Red Flat Community, Nacogdoches County, she and her family endured the hardships and poverty of the time. Her Father, Charles Martin Weber, was the orphaned son of German immigrants. Her Mother, Rosa Lee Tindall Weber, was from pioneer stock that arrived in Nacogdoches County before the Civil War. When her father died while Emma was in her early teens, the difficulties increased, as did her resilience, toughness, independence and strength of character. These traits were buoyed by her faith in God, strong family ties and a positive outlook which stayed with her throughout her 91 years. In October 1942 Emma Maurine renewed an old school acquaintance with a soldier, Chester L. Sachtleben, who was home on leave from the 1st Cavalry Division. After a chance meeting on a Sunday afternoon, they had three dates on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, Chester drove his Mother to Houston to visit a relative. Returning Saturday, he picked up Emma Maurine and drove to Mansfield, Louisiana where they were married. When Emma’s Mother asked Chester if he was going to take her baby away from her, he replied, “Ms. Weber, I hate to do this to you but I need her worse than you do.” That statement set the tone for a marriage which lasted until Chester’s death in 1987 and produced two children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. It also produced unbounded love and countless precious memories. Several adjectives are needed to describe Emma Maurine’s personality. Loving: to family, friends and even strangers. Independent: Of thought and action. Her conservative religious and political beliefs were strongly held and she was never bashful about expressing them. Faithful: To God, family and friends. Unique: In personality and expression. She was a veritable fountain of unique rural East Texas colloquialisms. Entertaining: It was impossible to be bored in her presence. The mood of her fellow residents at the Neches House in Lufkin soared when she joined them in the dining room. She refused to allow bad circumstances or poor health to affect her mood or the mood of her friends. Emma Maurine was a collector of strays, mostly animal but human as well. Never was a dog so mangy or a person so wretched that she failed to provide the love and care necessary to bring them back to physical and spiritual health. She was faithfully affiliated with the Church of God throughout her life. When Chester was called to the ministry she served faithfully at his side. When health precluded church attendance, she watched as many television church services as she could, often repeating them to her children on the telephone. In addition to her husband Chester, she was preceded in death by her parents, eight older siblings, essentially all of her lifelong friends and her little dog Pockets, whose ashes will accompany her on her journey. Emma Maurine Weber Sachtleben is survived by a son, Colonel James L. Sachtleben, U S Marine Corps retired, and his wife Vicki of College Station; a daughter, Rosemary Sullivan and husband Leo of Lufkin; grandchildren Beverly Shaff and husband Bob of Rochester, NY, Brett Sachtleben and wife Kim, Sean Sachtleben and wife Laura and Kristen Stagner and husband Aaron, all of Houston; Tricia Lair and husband Brian of Lufkin and a step-grandson Chris Sullivan and wife Amber of Conroe. Her great grandchildren are Logan and Lauren Lair of Lufkin; Erich, Anna, Quinn and Rylan Sachtleben and Reagan Stagner all of Houston.
