Klee, Benjamin Franklich - Death News Article - Noted Pioneer, Fames as an Indian Figher, Heaf of Militia During Strike in Cripple Cree District. Died in a hospital in Salt Lake City, from cancer of the stomach. General Klee went to Tuah from Denver gthree years ago, making the headquaters of his Montana mining enterprise there.Born in Andernoch, Germany, Christmas Day, 1853, came to America at age 15. Continued hiseducation in the GErman public schools in the United States, taking acourse in the School of Design, Pittsburgh. He quit school when border warfare with the Indians on the Texas plains and took up sabre and carbine for this new country. Enlisted with the Fourth US Cavalry and saw considerable acitve service on the frontier. Recieved several woods, and won an enviable record of fearlessnes and coursage. Came to Coloradoin 1879, settling in San Juan County, where he was a pioneer. Engaged in mining. Klee organized and captained a comapny of rangers who were acitve in curtailing the deprediations of the Ute's. In 1887 Kleewas elected Colonel of Second Regiment, C. N. C. heardquartered in Pueblo, organized Elks Lodge No90, and first exalted ruler. Appointed byGov. Cooper adjutant of Colorado in 1889. He handle the strifle between capital and unionism in the mining diestricts. General Klee is probably best known for his part in the Cripple Creek labor trouble, having been called from retierment in 1893 to cope with the tense situationin the great col camp.
