Obituary Doris May Randall Roper

Doris M. Roper, 87, died Sept. 11, in a local hospital. Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Zeyer Funeral Chapel,83 North Midland Blvd., Nampa, Idaho. Interment to follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, Idaho. Doris was born April 18, 1920, to Charles G. Randall and Mamie E. Nelson Randall, in Ellis, Kan. When she was 15 years old the family moved to Nampa, Idaho. She graduated from Nampa High School. She married Ross M. Roper in June 1938. She was a Red Cross volunteer during W.W. II and received the Volunteer Special Services Award for the Nurse's Aide Corps. Much later, in 1963, she fulfilled a life-long dream when she graduated from the Mercy Hospital Practical Nurse Training Program. Over the next 20 years she worked in almost every department at Mercy Medical Center. She was a competent and caring nurse. She held numerous positions of leadership in the LPN Association, including State President. Doris was a natural homemaker, an excellent cook, and a beautiful seamstress. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and other hand crafts. She was an avid reader and believed through books you could go anywhere. These talents served her well as she raised six children. She was an active volunteer in their school and 4-H activities. She was instrumental in establishing the USDA hot lunch program for Scism School. As a farm wife she knew hard work, pitching in where needed, in the barn or in the fields. This included feeding many midnight harvest crews. Summers were busy filling the pantry shelveswith hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and getting her family together for holiday celebrations. Doris was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Opal Hastriter, two brothers, Arthur Adair and Richard, her husband, Ross and a son, Richard. Survivors include a brother, Edwin Randall and wife Evelyn, Newport, Ore. Daughter-in-law, Jeanette Roper, Laguna Beach, Calif. Four daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Thiessen and Betty (Frank) Kaufman, Boise, Idaho. Linda Roper and Mary Jane (Leon) Horrocks, Craig, Colo. and a son, Ben (Kara) Roper, Melba, Idaho. Grandchildren, Randall Roper, Laguna Beach, Calif., Michael (Sally) Thiessen, Western Springs, Ill., Todd (Victoria) Thiessen, Pinecrest, Fla., Karen Thiessen, Dallas, Texas, Nancy (Sean) Pedigo, Greeley, Colo., Tara (Mitchell) Rogers, Syracuse, Utah, Aaron (Nikki) Horrocks, South Fork, Colo., Alan Horrocks, Cedar City, Utah, Christopher Kaufman, Kelly Kaufman, Sarah (Aaron) Scheff, Joseph Kaufman, Boise, Idaho, Sean Roper, Heyburn, Idaho, Richard Roper, Meridian, Idaho, Lacy (Trevor) Omundson, Melba, Idaho, and Amber (Tony) Trickett, Nampa, Idaho. She delighted in her 14 great-grandchildren and eagerly awaited the arrival of six additional great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Humphreys Diabetes Center (1226 West River Street, Boise, Idaho 83702), American Heart Association (270 South Orchard, Boise, Idaho 83705), or your favorite library.
