Karl R. Eyman, 93, of Springfield, passed away at 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. Karl was born June 19, 1923 in Farmersville, the son of William Ruric and Ethel Matilda Jackson Eyman. He married RoseMary Klaus on April 17, 1954 at First Church of the Brethren in Springfield.
Karl graduated from Hammond Technical High School inHammond, IN. He proudly served his country for 30 years in the U.S. Army, during WWII and the Korean War. He retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) and specialized in Air Defense. Karlwas a member of the First United Methodist Church and the IBT Sunday School class. He was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge #1111 in El Paso, TX. He enjoyed woodworking, making stained glass,and his Carlinville Coffee Club. Karl and RoseMary enjoyed traveling worldwide and visited all 50 states.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth F. Smith and EthelM. Rains; and nephew, Alan T. Smith, D.D.S.
He is survived by his wife, RoseMary Eyman of Springfield; nephews, Richard (wife, Heidi) Klaus of Champaign and Michael (wife, Joan) Klaus ofCarlinville; nieces, Nancy Strunk of Champaign, Marilyn Smith of McKinney, TX, Kathy (husband Roger) Welsh of St. Louis, and Karen Klaus of Carlinville; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family will host a memorial gathering from 2:30 until the time of the memorial ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Springfield, with Rev. Nicole Cox officiating.
Inurnment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery Columbarium with full military honors, at a later date.
