RIBAS, LINDA M. Linda M. Ribas, age 69, of Shelton, entered into rest on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. Linda was born in Derby on October 27, 1942, daughter of the late John and Lilyan (Tur) Ribas, and was a lifelong Shelton resident. Linda was a graduate of Shelton High School, completed her undergrad at UConn, and received Masters Degrees from each of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, University of California Berkeley, and SouthernCT. She worked as a media specialist, first in the Bridgeport School System, and then in the Hamden School System. Following her retirement after 16 years of service, she worked another four years atthe Derby Neck Library. Linda was an avid reader and loved to play bridge with her friends at the Shelton Senior Center. She enjoyed supporting the local arts and attending lectures and presentationswith her friends. She is the beloved mother of Alan Munson and is the sister of Jack Ribas and his wife Alicia. She also leaves two beloved nephews, John and Matthew Ribas, her husband, Richard Munson, and several dear close friends. Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM. On Wednesday, her funeral procession will leave Riverview at 10 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church in Shelton. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby. Contributions in Linda's memory can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of the LNV, 1 Positive Place, Shelton, CT 06484 or through the funeral director. | Begun in 1935 by the Social Security Act signed into law by FDR, more than thirty million Americans were registered for the economic security sanctions by 1937. From 1937 to 1940, payments were made in one-lump sums amounts with the first amount being seventeen cents. Following amendments in 1939, the payments turned into monthly benefits and increased. Following further amendments in 1950, cost-of-living increases were awarded to those who were receiving benefits.
