"Robert B. Meyner was known as a very hard worker and was never married prior to Helen D. Stevenson. He was a Senator for the State of New Jersey and later becoming Governor. The gossip at the time was that he was the most eligible bachelor in the country. He ran against John F. Kennedy for the Democratic party presidential nomination and lost. Helen later became a congresswoman. They never had children. Bob was a Naval officer during the war.
My father "Bud" and "Uncle Bob" rode a DC-4 laden with coal into Berlin in 1949 during the Airlift. Olive and William (Uncle Bill) never had children. Bill was the Skipper of a liberty ship during the War. My father spoke of Hulda who was Sophie's sister". (Richard J. Meyner, email 17 Feb 2004)
"At the end of WWII William Wagner as the ranking US Army officer was the Skipper of an Army Transport Service Victory class cargo ship "The Lock Knot". Uncle Bill had a "Masters" rating as a merchant seaman. Uncle Bob, Robert B. Meyner served on the same ship as the ranking US Navy officer as the commander of the Navy gun crew".
