| Todesanzeige | 6 May 2008is Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 3, 2008. He was born in Flint on November 11, 1921 to the late Roy and Nora (Ross) Winchell. Don married Elizabeth Louise Frederick on September 11, 1948 in Flint. Together they raised one son. Don was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from AC Spark Plug in Flint and from Buick Motors in Flint in 1979 after 37 years. His friends and colleagues were known as the "Road Runners." On his farm, Don raised cattle, sunflowers and chrysanthemums. He was the chaplain for American Legion Post 531 in Copemish for many, many years. Don was the treasurer for the Buckley Old Engine Steam Show. He attended the Wayside Chapel Congregational Church in Buckley and would never leave the house until he had read from the Holy Bible. From the time they were married, Elizabeth and Don would go snowmobiling every weekend with 20-30 other machines, known collectively as the "Road Runners." They would eat lunch out on the trails. They still own the same machines. Always on the go, Don enjoyed visiting friends and relatives, swimming at the civic center, and dining out. Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; and his son, Gregory Scott Winchell of Flint. Also surviving are two nephews, James and Don Davey; and several grand-nieces and grandnephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Ruth Pauline Davey. Visitation for Don will be on Thursday, May 8th from 5:30 until 7:00 pm at the Wayside Chapel Congregational Church in Buckley. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm at the church with the Reverend Ron Folkersma officiating. Military honors from American Legion Post 531 of Copemish will follow. Per Don's wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Wayside Chapel Congregational Church, PO Box 82, Buckley, Michigan, 49620. Arrangements were made by the Cremation & Burial Society of Michigan. | Flint, Genesee, Michigan, United Statesis Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
