New York, 1820-1850 Passenger and Immigration Lists Record about Pierre Lab Name: Pierre Lab Arrival Date: Jun 17, 1837 Age: 39 Gender: M Port of Arrival: New York Port of Departure: Havre Place of Origin: France Destination: United States of America Ship: Ship Xylon Microfilm Serial Number: M237 Microfilm Roll Number: 34 List Number: 473 Pierre Etienne Labbe was the original name of Peter Stephen Lab. Etienne appears to to be the French form of Stephen. There is a St. Etienne University and a St. Etienne Church in France. Correspondence from Timothy W. Lab to WL Gann found on Ancestry. com states that Peter arrived in New York on June 17, 1837, aboard the "Ship Xylon", which sailed from LaHavre, France. Peter Stephen was often called Pierre Etienne. That is how he signed his will. Tim also records the following: Peter Stephen Lab was born in Alsace, France 1797. Peter died 1877 in Tuscarawas County, OH. His body was interred in St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, Bolivar. He married Marie Francoise Morhang in Alsace, France, 1818. Marie was born France 1795. Marie died February 18, 1852 in Bolivar, OH. Her body was interred in St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, Boliva Calmoutier, St. Genevieve's Recorded Burials. 1836-1872. It reads : 1852, Feb 18: Francoise Morhang, w. Pierre Etienne Lab, buried the next day in Assumption cemetery among the French people of Bolivar. Present were Auguste, Louis & Alexis Lab, sons. In 1840 the Hessian and French settlers of Tuscarawas County began to erect the first church in their midst. Bishop Hartley states that " the original organization of the parish embraced TWENTY families. The land-owners, no doubt, were the mainstays of the congregation and of the church-building. They were the French pioneers John Baptist Draime (purchased land May 3, 1834), Francis Margot ( May 3, 1834), Peter Labbe (March 5, 1839) ..........The year 1850 marked the withdrawal of a French group from St. Peter's.From 1850-1853 this group attended the Church of the Assumption, or the French Chapel, as it was called, situated about 2 miles west of the town of Bolivar, or as Mr. Labbe states "three miles northwest of Bolivar".Among this group were found the families of Labbe, Henry, and Agnes. These people built a church with an adjoining cemetery. Yet not all French people withdrew from Old St. Peter's : the Draime, Margot, Trodoux families all remained there. The Metropolitan Almanacs of 1851 and 1852 carry this notice : " Mount Eaton ( now Calmoutier) St. Genevieve, Fr. Augustine Rollinet now visits the French settlement near Bolivar ".
