James Harold died in a North Korean prison camp. -------------------------- "Hickman County paper, 12-14-1951 Bronze Star Medal for Cpl. James H. Lynch....Presentation of a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Korea was made at 8:00 p.m.. Thursday night, December 13, to Mr. William A.[sic] Lynch of Centerville, for his son, Cpl. James H. Lynch who is missing in action. The presentation was made at the Veterans of Foreign WArs Home, 105 Webb, Centerville by Co. Robert H. Wilson, Executive Officer, Tennessee Military Disrict..."For meritorious service from August 31, 1950 to October 26, 19950, the Bronze Star is awarded to Corporal Lynch", the citation states: During that period he was a medical man attached to a task company and was constantly with the unit in all hazardous conditions of enemy action and bad weather, performing his duties in an excellent manner. His conscientious devotion to duty and to his wounded comrades undoubtedly saved many lives. The untiring efforts and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Lynch reflect great credit upon himself and the minitary service," the citation reads." (transcription by Joyce Mayberry) --------------------------- Sgt. James Lynch Died in Prison In 1951, Reports Say Centerville, Tennessee - Sgt. James H. Lynch, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Lynch of Aetna, died January 8, 1951, in a North Korean prison camp, according to the defense department. In the communication received by his parents from the Office of the Adjutant General, it was reported that information obtained from a recently freed POW disclosed that their son was captured December 1, l950, and died in the camp of unknown causes. Sergeant Lynch had been in Korea six months at the time of this capture. He had been awarded the Korean Service medal, the United Nations Service medal, and the Bronze Star.
