My name is Joyce VanderVere, and I live in Muskegon, Michigan, USA. I have been following your GeneaNet entries for some time now, and have discovered new members of the family! Thank You! Now, if you're interested, I can tell you some of the family here, descended from Karst Warner Sempel, who came to the US in April of 1847 aboard the "Harvest Havana" It docked in Baltimore, Maryland. He brought his 6 youngest children with him. His wife, Aaltje Kaptein, died shortly after reaching Michigan. Karst Warner died September 7, 1856, at sea, Lizard Point, Cornwall, England. He was on his way back to the US when the ship he was on, the" Ocean Home" collided with another American ship, the "Cheribum" 77 people died. Only 35 people survived from the Ocean Home. My husband is descended from Karst's daughter, Mary Ann Sempel, born about December, 1840 in Hoogeveen.
