Lorraine M. (Schmeckpeper) Niedfeldt, 87, of Onalaska, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. She wasborn September 12, 1926, in La Crosse to Edward and Eleanor (Platz) Schmeckpeper. On September 27, 1944, she married Maynard Niedfeldt in Barre Mills and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2009, after over 64years of marriage. Lorraine and her husband farmed in the Town of Burnsfor 25 years until 1970, when they moved to Onalaska. She worked as aseamstress at Charlotte's Bridal and Jack Winters, both in La Crosse. After her husband retired and went to work for RSVP and Budget Ride driving the Amish and others around, Lorraine would join him on those tripsand enjoyed visiting with their many passengers. She was a member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in West Salem and the Anderson-Good AmericanLegion Auxiliary Post 40 of Bangor. Lorraine enjoyed playing cards anddancing with old time music, but most of all, spending time with her family was her favorite pastime, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include five children, Gerald "Jerry" (Bonnie) of La Crosse, Eleanor (Michael) Amundson of Stoddard, Wis., Eugeneof Onalaska, Roger (Rachel) of Coon Valley, Wis., and Joanne (Steve) Kreutzer of Caledonia, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; one brother, Gene (Doloris) Schmeckpeper of Coon Valley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, shewas preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Alma Schmeckpeper; her daughter, Dianne Thompson; and her grandson, Russel Amundson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, 500 Park St., West Salem. Pastor Joel Stuebs will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Jostad Chapel), West Salem, isin charge of arrangements.
