PIERCE – Funeral service for Lynn L. (Smeck) Schmeckpeper, 66, of Pierce will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the StonacekMemorial Chapel in Pierce with Pastor Bill Miller officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, also at Stonacek Memorial Chapel. A private burial will be held at a later date in Alliance, NE. Lynnpassed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Premier Estates in Pierce. Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce is in charge of the arrangements.
Lynn was born on September 21st, 1949 in Tilden, NE to Victor EmmanuelWilliam Schmeckpeper and Helen Opal (Brand). Lynn was the 3rd son bornto Victor and Helen.
Lynn grew up on a farm and attended numerous country schools until 9thgrade when he went to High School at Neligh High. Lynn graduated from Neligh High School in 1967. After one year of college at Kearney State,Lynn returned home to Neligh, While Lynn was in high school he was involved in wrestling during his first 2 years of high school only wrestling at about 100 pounds.
Lynn grew up helping his father and other farmers in the area with farmchores, haying, and pigs and with whatever else needed to be done. Lynn learned from an early age that hard work was what was necessary to survive. During high school and after Lynn went to work for Al Haines atthe Council Oaks grocery store in Neligh in the produce section. Lynn learned a lot from Al and he went to work at a grocery store in Ainsworth, NE.
In 1972 Lynn uprooted and moved to Sterling Colorado to help his middlebrother Don in his tire recap business. Lynn then drove a delivery truck for Coke Cola to numerous little towns in Northeast Colorado. Lynn also worked for a Hardware store while living in Sterling. Lynn returnedto the grocery business for numerous years working in Bridgeport, Scottsbluff and Alliance.
Lynn continued managing produce departments until he decided he neededa change and went to work for Gering Valley Plumbing in Gering, NE in 1990. Lynn worked for Gering Valley and assisted in them in building a massive Retirement home, and also assisted with the Wildcat Hills visitor center as well as the Agate Fossil Beds center. Lynn earned his Journeyman Plumbers license on July 6th, 1993. Lynn also was certified in back flow preventers, Water quality and numerous other certifications.
Lynn left Gering Valley Plumbing and joined K. L. Woods Construction inAlliance. Lynn once again relocated to Alliance. While working for Woods Const., Lynn was the main plumbing supervisor in building three (3)new motels. One in Scottsbluff, NE one in Morrill, NE and one in Alliance. Lynn also helped with the 50’s diner that was built in Morrill.
Lynn met his soulmate of 20 years Diana Maloney in Alliance, NE where Lynn had been living while working for K.L. Woods.
Lynn and Diana moved to Plainview Nebraska in a blizzard in February of1998 to help his aging parents with their small farm. In the fall of 1998 Lynn decided it was time to start his own plumbing company, Smeck’sServices. He did plumbing and drain cleaning until his health declined.
Lynn had been fighting cancer since February of 2010 and had numerous surgeries and treatments, but the cancer won the battle. On July 1st 2016, Lynn had a stroke and on July 29th he was admitted to the Premier Estates Nursing home. Lynn passed away August 18, 2016, on his father’s birthday.
Lynn is survived by his beloved Diana, his faithful dog, Mazey the Mutt. His brother Donald (Anita) of Denver Co., sister in law, Catherine Schmeckpeper of Omaha, Diana’s children, Christine Maloney Ambrose of Chadron, Stacey Maloney-Johnson (Tina) of Cheyenne, WY; son Alan Maloney (Kayla) of Rapid City SD. Diana’s, grandsons: Lucas Riley Ambrose, Clayand Cody Johnson. Numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and by his fourbest friends Jeannie Simmons of Sterling, Co., Wayne Furstenau of Pierce, Dean Ennen of Ponca and Frank Flenniken of Neligh.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Helen, grandparents, Henry and Dora (Koertje) Schmeckpeper, grandparents Frank and Lillie(Hahn) Brand; his eldest brother Larry Schmeckpeper.
Soloist will be Robin Eberhardt. Casket bearers will be Rick Eberhardt,Dean Ennen, Alan Maloney, Wayne Furstenau, and Rick Armitage. Honorarycasket bearers will be Frank Flenniken.
