Henry Gebert was born in Eldenor, Mecklenburg, Germany, June 15, 1829.After completing military service in Germany he came to America in 1858. He afterward served this country during the Civil War and was on thewinning side. This portion of his life was perhaps the most important of his career on earth and he loved to rehearse the incidents and pictures the scene of the battlefields where he did, without question, bravedeeds. His first home in America was at Dalton, near Chicago. He latermoved to Homewood, Illinois, and from there came to Caledonia Township,O'Brien County, Iowa. Here he became a highly successful farmer untilabout two years ago when he retired from agricultural pursuits and moved to Paullina where he spent his last days. In 1869 he was joined in wedlock to Maria Rosenberg (Nee Tallner). this union was blessed with twochildren now Emil Gebert and Mrs. Sophie Schroeder. Mrs. Gebert was the mother to five children from her former husband, four of whom are living. They are as follows: Fred Rosenberg, Hammond, IND. Carl Rosenberg,Joliet, IL, Mrs. Funk, Tinley Park, IL, and Mrs. Elbers of Blue Island, ILL. These were present at the funeral which was held from the GermanLutheran Church yesterday afternoon, Rev. Bernthal being in charge. Interment was made at Prairie View. Besides the ones mentioned and the afflicted widow who is nearing the end of the Journey, Mr. Gebert leavesThirty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was stricken with a cold or something that developed into pneumonia or lung complications, making his last hours very painful. KW
