He changed his name from Johann Heinrich Goerge to John Henry Gehring. Although cheered up by the prospect of recovering from his illness and after eating quitea hearty breakfast, Henry Goering died at his home northeast of town on Saturday morning, March 18, 1911, at 8 o'clock. The immediate cause of his death was appoplexy. His failing health dates back about two years ago. During the course of his illness hi sumitted to several operations, the first for a hernia and the last one for a tumerous growth. He was bed-ridden since last January and graduallygrew weaker, although lately he seemed to revive at times and gave hopes of recovery. His sickness was of a long duration and he suffered intensily, but he bore his suffering patientlyand with resignation.

Henry was born in Edenkoben, Rheubusgm Bavaria, Germany on Nov. 27, 1848. He came to the U.S. with his parents May, 1865 and settled at Hollowayville, Bureau County, Ill., where he was married to Miss Phillipena Genslinger on Aug. 8, 1870. He moved to Platte County, Neb. and settled on the farm which he occupied until his death in Grand Prairie Township around 1888

Deceased heis survived by his wife, five daughters and for sons. The children are Mrs. Leopold Seibler, Henry Jr., George, Louis, Mrs. Anthony Hassebrook, Katie, Phillipena, Fred and Emma, all residing within ashort distance from the parental home.

Mr. Goering was a quiet unasuming man who had the respect and esteem of his many friends and neighbors. He was a devout and earnest worker in his church andpracticed his religion by leading a strictly honest, upright and useful life and by rearing his children to become good and useful members in their community. He was always helpful to those who neededhelp. He was a hard worker and his habits were frugal, which accounts for the substantial fortune who he leaves to those who survived him.
