"History of Orange County" by Samuel Armour, pg. 866-869
Mrs. Wells (Clara L Stearns) being the only daughter. She was born in Canisteo N.Y., her childhood being spent near
Traverse City, Mich., where Mr. Stearns was in the lumber business. When she was fifteen years of age the family moved to Wellington, Kansas, and it was here that she met Mr. Wells. For sometime previous to their marriage she was engaged in teaching school in Kansas.
"Kiowa Review" June 12, 1901, film K-689, Kansas Historical Society, Topeka Kansas
From a private letter to the Review we learn that Geo. W. Wells and his family left yesterday for Tustin California at which place they will be locate. Tustin is fortunate in securing this esxcellent family.
While going through these newspapers I did find how socially active Clara was in Kiowa.
