Virgil Elder Frey went home to be with the Lord peacefully on September 27, 2010 at his family home with his loving wife of 59 years, Vernalee, by his side.
Born in Newton Kansas, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mabel Elder Frey. He lived a very long and full life surrounded by loving family and friends. He often reflected on surviving the GreatDepression and serving honorably in World War II. Virgil was very proud of his Alma Mater, Bethel College, where he graduated in 1950 with a major in Natural Science, and minors in Education and English. He was an accomplished Purchasing Manager at the Boeing Company for 35 years and later rounded out his career as owner and operator of Claymont Hardware with three generations of his family. Virgil maintained a lifelong love of learning, always seeking to learn new things and cultivating new skills. In addition to being a master gardener, he also loved genealogy, traveling, reading, and spending time with his family. He was a long time member of the Claymont Lions Club and the Sons of the American Revolution.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Mark O. Frey, his daughter and son-in-law Carol and Raymond F. Quinn, Jr.; four devoted grandchildren, Curtis M. Frey, Emily and her husband MattTroutman, Anastasia Quinn and Cassandra Quinn; great-grandchildren Dean and Macy Troutman. He was preceded in death by his brother J.R.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 2 pm.on Friday, October 1, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Rd., Wilmington. The family will receive guests from 5to 7 pm. on Thursday September 30, 2010 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to: Claymont Lions Club Foundation, c/oRichard Gackenbach, 3704 Pimlico Pl., Boothwyn PA 19060.
