Notes for this person
During the building boom in Florida, Oscar worked there as a carpenter. After the boom ended, Oscar returned to Pa, met Elsie Bailey, a school teacher who boarded with Mrs. Jennie Miller. Elsie and Pete married and Pete and his brothers built the bungalows adjacent to the family homestead. Family matters forced Pete and Elsie to return to Elsie's home town of Tower CIty.Here Pete built his second home and theylived here, adopted a daughter, Marian, and finally a miracle, they had a son, Oscar Jr. They lived in Tower Dity until hard times closedthe mines. The family moved to Middletown where Oscar secured employment at Olmstead Ari Base as a carpenter. An on the job back injury forced him to leave his job at the base. For a time during the war years, Pete and Elsie operated a restaurant adjacent to the railroad underpass in Middletown. When troop trains were stopped on the sideing, Elsie and staff were busy handing out cookies and other goodies to the troops. At one time Elsie was employed as a baker for a 5& 10 store restaurant in Harrisburg.During the 50's Oscar operated a fish market in Steelton. After the death of his wife, and the marriages of his children, Osar again returned to Tower City. He resided there withdaughter, Marian until his death in 1974.
