Sonstiges: He was graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1939. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph his entire life. In September of 1942, he was drafted into the military, where he achieved the rank of sergeant. He served in the Army 5th Air Force as a cryptographer. He was stationed in the Philippines; Oceanside, Ore.; Okinawa and Japan. Bill took part in the battles of Leyte, Luzon, S.W. Pacific, Okinawa and in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in February, 1946, and awarded three Battle Stars and the Presidential Citation for active fighting, and work in decoding Japan air and ground communications. He took great pride in his military service. Bill worked as a sales representative at Western Chemical Co. for 40 years and retired in 1983. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his yard, playing golf, fishing, traveling, and visiting family and friends. He was known as the "Bread Man" in St. Joseph, and loved to bake fresh bread and deliver it to shut-ins, friends, relatives and anyone else he thought might enjoy it.
