Der Name wurde auch Laveaux geschrieben und kommt wahrscheinlich von Le Veau einer Hugennotenfamilie welche um 1580 in Frankenthal ansässig wurde. Ein Bernard Le Veau wurde bereits 872 als Graf von Autun, Toulouse und Limoges erwähnt. Sein Todestag muß vor dem 27.06.1736 gewesen sein, da im Sterbeeintrag seiner Frau er als verstorben eingetragen ist.
