Notizen zu dieser Person
Daniel Hoppis [Hoppes], who died at his home in West Vine street Tuesday afternoon, was a veteran of the Civil war and served with distinction through a number of engagements. Mr. Hoppis enlisted from Madison county in Compny A, Nineteenth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was later transferred to Company I, Twentieth Volunteer Infantry, with which he remained until mustered out. He was mustered into the service on March 8, 1862, and mustered out July 12, 1865. Daniel Hoppis located in New Castle after the war and had continued to reside here ever since. He was about 66 years of age and well known about the city. Until within two weeks ago he was apparently healthy, but was stricken with paralysis, his entire left side being affected, and his friends had little hope for his recovery. He is survived by his wife and two children - Mrs. Thomas Houck, of this city, and Clint Hoppis, agent for the Pennsylvania railroad at Anderson. The funeral will take place Thursday and burial will be at South Mound cemetery.
