Nach der Geburt von neun Kindern verstarb Maria. Für seine minderjährigen Kinder brauchte er eine Stiefmutter. Und die fand er in Johanna Seyen, die sich die Last mit ihren Stiefkindern aufbürdete und weitere vier eigene Kinder der Familie hinzufügte.
