Gottfried Daniel Krummacher war der jüngere Bruder von Friedrich Adolf Krummacher. Nach dem Studium der Theologie war er ab 1798 Pfarrer in Baerl (heute: Duisburg), ab 1801 in Wülfrath und ab 1816 dann in Elberfeld.
Er war theologisch von Friedrich Adolf Lampe beeinflusst und galt darüber hinaus als ein gemäßigter Vorgänger Hermann Friedrich Kohlbrügges. Durch seine Predigt von der freien Gnade Gottes, die jedes Pathos vermissen ließ, wurde Krummacher zum Haupt der niederrheinischen Erweckungsbewegung.
