He was born December 23, 1931 in Rossville, Kansas, to Clarence T. and Anna L. (Reilly) Gideon. Clifton was a graduate of Topeka High School in 1949 and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended Colorado, Washburn, and Kansas Universities where he studied drafting and engineering. His professional career included Chief Draftsman in the Installation Engineering Office at Forbes Air Force Base and as an electrical engineer at Allied Engineering Co. He was also a test engineer at General Dynamics and head purchasing agent at Inn Operations, Inc., which later became Brock Hotel Corp. Later, his position was Senior Vice President of construction for which the company built Holiday Inn hotels within the U.S. He then owned and operated Gideon and Associates commercial construction company where he developed and built the Charles R. Bennett Academic Computer Center at Washburn University. He was owner of Latimer’s Seafood Restaurant and Gideon Consulting. His community service included the Board of Directors for the Villages and the Jayhawk Hotel Revitalization project. Clifton married Theresa (Quinlan) on April 7, 1953. She passed away April 30, 1997. He then married Carol Graves on August 14, 1998. She survives. He leaves behind four children: Mark (Brenda) Gideon, Pamela (Jim) Richards, Greg Gideon, Jenifer (Schaan) Donaldson. He is also survived by two step children: Lantz (Thao) Hastings and Jamie Frazier. Clifton has nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. His sister, Marjorie Hersh, also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Valeri N. Zerger, two sisters, and two brothers.
