Richard Collins HICKMAN

DANVILLE DAILY COMMERCIAL, 4 June 1890. "No little excitement was caused in the city this morning by the announcement that R. Col. Hickman was found dead in his orchard in Catlin Township this morning about five o'clock by some members of his family. The deceased came to Danville in a buggy yesterday morning. After transacting his business he started home, going to the residence of S. T. Ellsworth where he had business as one of the highway commissioners of his Township. He left Mr. Ellsworth's about eight o'clock last evening which was the last seen of him until he was found as above stated. His son, with whom our reporter had a conversation this morning, stated that the horse he was driving ran away with the buggy, breaking it into kindling wood. Mr. Hickman was badly bruised about the head and body. There is no means of knowing what time he arrived at home or how he happened to go into the orchard instead of the house. The deceased was sixty-five years old and leaves a wife and four children, all grown. He was one of the oldest residents of this County and highly respected in the community where he lived. The funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Conley of Fairmount."
