Dowden D. ZIRKLE

Dowden D. Zirkle, 88, of RD #8 Box 330, Meadville, Pa., died May 7, 2006 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, Pa. He was born February 9, 1918 in Hall, W.V., a son of the late Brenn Andrew Zirkle and Etta Zickafooze. He married Helen Hitchcock, who preceded him in death, and later married Jeannette Inchiosa Zirkle on January 22, 1943. He was a yard conductor for the Erie Lackawanna/Conrail railroad for 36 years and was co-owner of Zirkles Tavern. He was a member of the Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Blacks Corner Church, the Vernon Volunteer Fire Hall, the U.T.U. 0291, and belonged to the Norrisville Sportsmans Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; wife, Jeannette; three brothers, Arthur L., Robert, and Howard Zirkle. Survivors include one son, Donald F. Zirkle, and wife, Shirley, of Conneaut Lake, Pa., one daughter, Dorothy S. Zirkle, of Meadville, Pa.; one step-son, Fred R. Stainbrook, of Harborcreek, Pa.; five sisters, Elva Thompson of Saegertown, Pa., Ruth Koehler of Warren, Ohio, Bernice Kirkwood of Meadville, Pa., Margaret Koehler of Saegertown, Pa., and Virginia McGill and husband, Chuck, of Meadville, Pa.; one brother, Dorman Zirkle and wife, Libby, of Meadville, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
